Boxing analyst says 'Pacman' will win vs Diaz

Veteran boxing analyst Ronnie Nathanielsz on Saturday said he believes Pinoy boxing champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao would bring home the lightweight championship of the world title during his match with Mexican fighter David Diaz on Sunday morning (Manila time) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"He will win. I don’t see any way he can be beaten. He is too fast, he is too strong and he is too smart for David Diaz as a boxer," Nathanielsz said on ANC’s Dateline.

While Pacquiao's camp boasts that they can finish the fight in 9 out of 12 rounds, Diaz vows to put up a good fight in defending the title.

Nathanielsz said that he thinks the bout will go 12 rounds since Diaz is a "very strong, determined young man and has trained very hard. He is hard to knockout, hard to put away."

Diaz, he said, is a world champion and has beaten some of the best fighters in his weigh division.

"Pacquiao is up against a guy who is strong, very durable and is in great condition and will come at him for 12 rounds. He will not stop. That's his style David Diaz. That's why he will be a difficult opponent in that respect," he said.

Classic match

Excitement is running high for the battle between Diaz and Pacquiao in a clash aptly dubbed "Lethal Combination" at the Mandalay Bay Arena in Las Vegas.

Boxing analysts and afficionados believe the fight is going to be a classic match in boxing and one of the best fights of the year.

However, Nathanielsz said that Diaz will not be able to beat Pacquiao that easily since the Filipino boxing champ has beaten "every Mexican legend in town."

"And if you look at them side by side in terms of their natural abilities Pacquiao is a far more exciting fighter than Diaz. Diaz is a plodder. He just come at you, he will lean on Pacquiao and try and hope for the best. I talked to him a few days ago and he told me my plan is to fight to go the distance. If the fight goes the distance that's my best chance," said Nathanielsz.

The boxing analyst said Pacquiao has been training his footwork and also working on a variety of punches.

"He has been accentuating his footwork because he has to move in a different way. He is also working on a variety of punches--the hook, the uppercut because normally, Pacquiao's most devastating weapon is the left straight. That's the one that kills," he said adding, "But now he is working on the hook because he is fighting a different kind opponent. So he has had to make some changes in strategy and in fight plan in training."

Pacquiao all set

In a phone patch from Las Vegas, ABS-CBN correspondent Dyan Castillejo meanwhile reported that the Filipino fighter is in great shape and all set for Saturday evening’s (Las Vegas, USA time) fight.

Castillejo said that majority of the crowd who attended the weigh-in hosted by Michael Buffer were Filipinos. A lot of Filipinos have arrived in Las Vegas from the Philippines and from other US states to support Pacquiao.

"Manny was very appreciative of the overwhelming support of his kababayans and Diaz, he was very cool even if Pacquaio got most of the cheers even from some Mexicans," Castillejo said.

It was Pacquiao who first went up to the scale and was reportedly half a pound below the limit at 134.5 lbs. while Diaz came at exactly at 135 lbs.

"The fighters got together for a very long time. They posed to the audience, showed off their physique which was the fruit of the very hard training," she said.

She added that even the Mandalay Bay Hotel is all set for the Mexican-Filipino match with souvenirs for the fight such as caps, jackets and even Philippine flags are up for sale in the lobby.

Both fighters’ names and posters are also found all over the hotel, she added.

Tickets for the 11,000-capacity arena are now close to 9,500 and are expected to increase on the last day.

Castillejo said that Pacquiao, who had gone from 130 to 135 lbs, had hinted that he may want to go up to 140 lbs next fight.

"His plan is to fight Ricky Hutton who is a 140 pound champion in November. That's his plan. He and his handlers look ahead. Bob Arum looks ahead, what fight is best suited for Pacquiao next," Nathanielsz said.

However, Nathanielsz has this to say in the event Diaz wins.

"We will weep for a week. We will have another tragedy. The ferry sinking was bad enough, the floods are even worse. Pacquiao losing? I don’t know how many people have already jumped the tallest building."

Senator Obama's statement on the US Visit of President Arroyo

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Barack Obama released the following statement on the visit of Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to the United States:

I welcome the visit this week of Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and her delegation to the United States. President Arroyo's visit is an opportunity to strengthen our historic alliance, and to discuss a host of issues of mutual interest.

I wish first to express my sympathies through President Arroyo to the victims and families of typhoon Fengshen, which has just hit the southern portion of the Philippines, leaving tremendous devastation in its wake. I urge the U.S. government to provide emergency support to alleviate the suffering caused by this catastrophic natural disaster.

The bond between the United States and the Philippines is strong and enduring. The Philippines has been an important ally of the United States through World War II, the Cold War, and now the fight against terrorism and extremism. The 1954 Manila Pact formed a cornerstone of U.S. policy in Southeast Asia during the Cold War, and the Philippines continues to be one of only two U.S. treaty allies in Southeast Asia today. After the events of September 11, 2001, the Philippines has worked closely with the United States to root out Al Qaeda and its affiliates in the region.

Annual joint military exercises, named "Balikatan," or "Shoulder-to-Shoulder," have been a model of cooperation, and form the core of U.S.-Philippine military-to-military activities to support the Philippines with its ongoing defense reform efforts. I support these continuing programs, including upgrading and enhancing the military's equipment and training.

The agenda for President Arroyo's visit is full. Together, we must address many challenges going forward, including the future of ASEAN, the continuing tragedy in Burma, implementation of recently-authorized Millennium Challenge Account assistance, and alleviation of the effects of the global food crisis on the Philippines. We should deal with these challenges with confidence in the foundation of our common interests and the shared values on which our relationship is based.

President Arroyo will also come to offer her appreciation for the United States Senate's passage of the Veterans' Benefits Enhancement Act of 2007 in April. This legislation would offer Filipino veterans the benefits they rightfully deserve for their heroic service during World War II. Filipino and American troops fought bravely together under some of the most trying conditions suffered by any forces during that conflict. Filipinos displayed great courage alongside American soldiers at Bataan and Corregidor, only to be denied their just benefits by our government. I join President Arroyo in urging my colleagues in Congress to honor the heroic service of Filipino World War II veterans by finally turning this important legislation into law.

The most important part of our bilateral relationship is the deep and abiding people-to-people bond that our two nations share. I grew up in Hawaii, where Filipinos have had an enormous positive impact on the culture and the economy. Across the United States, generations of Filipino immigrants have enriched our society and contributed to building a more vibrant United States of America. The continuing bond they have with the land of their heritage resonates in the strong families and communities they have woven into the fabric of American society. As dedicated citizens, Filipino Americans--4 million strong-- embody our nation's highest ideals.

The Philippines has a proud legacy as Asia's first democracy, a legacy that should be honored and cherished but never taken for granted by the American people. I have great hope for the Philippines and admiration for its people. I extend a warm welcome to President Arroyo on her visit to the United States, and I look forward to working with her and her country in years to come as the Philippine people work together with us toward a better and more secure future for our two nations, for Asia, and for the world.

PACQUIAO COMPLETES FINAL TRAINING PRIOR TO DIAZ FIGHT

By Ed de la Vega, DDS
PhilBoxing.com

Fri, 27 Jun 2008
Las Vegas, NV:- Manny Pacquiao today motored to the IBA Gym along Euclid Street in this scorching Sin City without his chief trainer, Freddie Roach, to complete the final training day before the big night on Saturday. Roach was at the Orleans Hotel with his others wards who were fighting tonight.
Pacquiao’s training was more for a little sweat than a anything else. “Just to keep in shape” was how the veteran Filipino scribes described it. Buboy Fernandez, his long time friend and trainer supervised the short routine. Also on hand to help Fernandez were Eric Brown and Alex Ariza.
And sweat he did! Today was a hot day in Vegas (so what else is new in a desert city) and the IBA Gym owners opened all the doors to try to air the place. They even turned on the central air conditioning. But the temperature was just something else.
Pacquiao did a couple of rounds on the mitts with Fernandez. He also shadow box, hit the speed bag and did the jump rope.
After the short routine, the GMA crew had a short interview with him. Then whole entourage returned to the Mandalay Bay Resort Casino so Pacquiao can have a little rest and have dinner with some select guests.
What was so interesting to note was in spite of his busy schedule, Pacquiao still made the time to talk about the typhoon victims in the Philippines. Addressing some of the Filipino scribes that are gathered around the ring side, this writer included, Pacquaio said:- “Paki sabi na lang sa kanila, lagi silang nasa isip ko at tutulong ako pag balik ko:” (Please tell them they are always in my mind and I will help them when I return).

Pacquiao to Diaz: Watch out for my right hand

Manny "The Pacman" Pacquiao said Friday he has developed a more powerful right hand for the challenge against WBC lightweight champ David Diaz at the Mandalay Bay Hotel Resort and Casino this weekend.
"There's a big development on my right. I will use it on Diaz," Pacquiao told ABS-CBN's morning show, "Umagang Kay Ganda."
The Pinoy boxing idol, a traditional southpaw, said he and coach Freddie Roached developed his right punching hand for Diaz, who is also a southpaw.
"Medyo iba ang preparation natin na ginawa. Southpaw si Diaz. We have a different technique for a southpaw," Pacquiao said.
Pacquiao said he is all set and ready to slug it out with Diaz on Saturday (Sunday in Manila). The Filipino pride will try to make history as he attempts to be the first Filipino boxer to hold four titles.
"Hindi naman ako kinakabahan. [I'm] all set for the fight. Magandang laban ito," he said when asked how prepared he is for the fight.
Earlier, chief editor Nigel Collins of the boxing "Bible" Ring Magazine said the Pacquiao-Diaz "Lethal Combination" match-up has the makings of a very exciting fight.
“The old cliché that ‘styles make fights’ I think really applies here because we have two guys who likes to mix it up,” said
Collins, the helmsman of the “bible of boxing”, said in an interview over dzSR. Collins said the styles of both fighters seem to complement each other and this fact makes the bout exciting.“There are some advantages to Diaz as far as size goes, who's used to fight bigger guys.
There are also advantages for Manny, his speed, better boxing skills,” he said.
Pacquiao and Diaz both have exceptional stamina to last even for 15 rounds that is why it is easy to perceive that they will be slugging it out until the final bell.
The Filipino boxer has declined to make a prediction about the fight, but promised he will give his all in the fight to snatch the world title.
While most oddsmakers favor the Filipino bomber, Collins said that the fight’s excitement level will depend on Diaz.
“I think that Diaz has the kind of style, the kind of heart and durability to make it a kind of fight that's gonna have the fans on the edges of their seat if not standing up,” he said.

Ex-PDA graduate Iya Ginez now successful singer in Guam

By REYMA BUAN-DEVEZA
abs-cbnNEWS.com

Former graduate of reality show "Philippine Dream Academy" (PDA) Iya Ginez is now making a name for herself outside the country.
Dubbed as the "Crying Lady" of PDA's first season, Ginez is now a well-known performer doing shows in Guam.
The singer said she is really enjoying her life and doing well in her newfound place, together with other Filipina entertainers.
Like other professional artists, they are following Guam's strict rule of not entertaining customers at the table or receiving tips.
Some artists committed this violation in past years, leading to a stint in jail.
"Maingat kami talaga, ayaw ko din namang makompromiso o mapahiya mga Pilipino, okay na kasi ngayon, 'di tulad dati," Ginez said.
Aside from preparing for her debut album that will first be released in Manila, Ginez is also set to renew her US working visa.
"Natuloy (talaga) ang aking dream dito sa Guam," Ginez added.
The singer said she is still wishing to get back inside the Academy not to compete or to be one of the scholars but just to see her idol, international performer Billy Crawford.
"My God! Para lang mayakap ko ang idol ko Billy Crawford! Papasukin nila ulit ako," Ginez said.
Gianna Marie "Iya" Ginez in real life is a free spirit that learned to trust herself inside the Academy. "Trusting yourself" were the words she learned from then-Academy headmaster APO member Jim Paredes.
She was then linked to Jay-R Siaboc. In October 29, 2006 after staying for nine weeks in the Academy, Ginez ended her stint in PDA.

Chivas Malunda Issued Forced Expulsion from PDA

After PDA Scholar Chivas Malunda suffered from hyperventilation and migraine for the third time, the mentors of the Pinoy Dream Academy and Headmaster Ryan Cayabyab finally decided to give him a FORCED EXPULSION.

As much as they wanted Chivas to stay because of his exceptional talent, they could not risk his health and also Bunny, his, wife, who was constantly worrying about him. Chivas accepted his fate with an open heart. Although he is saddened to leave his new found friends and wife behind, he knows that what has happened is the best solution not only for him but for everyone.

Uberture host Billy Crawford accompanied Chivas on his exit from the Academy. But before he stepped outside the Academy doors, he showered Bunny with kisses and gave each scholar a tight hug. Everyone was teary eyed to see him go. He was welcomed back to the outside world by his older sister and son.

Because of this, voting for the probationary scholars Iñaki Ting and Laarni Losala is now suspended.

Radio DZMM wins silver in New York Festival

ABS-CBN's radio station, DZMM Radyo Patrol 630 bagged the silver prize in the prestigious New York Festivals for the Radio Broadcasting Breaking News Story category (longform) for its special coverage of the Manila Hostage Drama last year.

Peter Musngi, ABS-CBN vice-president for Manila Radio Division, DZMM program and production services manager Marah Faner Capuyan and DZMM executive producer Nannette Quong received the award Thursday night, June 19, at at the Tribaca Rooftop in New York City.
DZMM won for covering the hostage-taking involving a whole busload of pre-school students who were held hostage on March 18, 2007.

It will be recalled that as soon as Radyo Patrol reporter Armel Fernandez broke the story, DZMM geared up for a special coverage and deployed reporters to the scene to get more information and a clearer picture of the situation at hand.

"The biggest breakthrough came when DZMM got hold of Jun Ducat, the hostage-taker himself and as it turned out, it was only through DZMM that he could be contacted. "It also became the link between Ducat and the worried parents of school children," said Musngi.

DZMM veteran anchors Ted Failon and Korina Sanchez bridged him and the proper authorities--from the education department, to the social welfare department and, most importantly, the national police -- for his demands. After 10 long hours of tension, the hostage drama ended when Ducat agreed to surrender and release the hostages at seven in the evening.

"Throughout this, DZMM reported with prudence and acted responsibly thus avoiding a tragic ending to this crisis. The station again lives up to its commitment of being first in news and public service without causing harm and endangering others," said Musngi.

Aside from winning the silver prize, DZMM also earned a finalist berth fot its station manager-anchor Angelo Palmones in the Talk Show Host category for the science-oriented show "Bago Yan, Ah!"

Greenpeace asks Metrobank to quit Coal

Greenpeace tells Metrobank to stop funding climate change; Climate Defender's Camp concludes in Iloilo

Global Business Power Corp (GBPC) a subsidiary of Metrobank , together with Panay Power Corp (PPC), is pushing dirty energy projects in Iloilo City as well as Toledo in neighboring Cebu island. .

Greenpeace activists concluded their occupation of a coal plant site in Iloilo City by dumping 20 sacks of 'coal' in front of Metrobank today. Metrobank is the promoter of the proposed Iloilo City coal-fired power plant in whose site Greenpeace volunteers have been camping since last Friday to step up public opposition to their proposed coal project. The Greenpeace action came a day after the environment group launched an online petition on their website to enable people to write to Metrobank urging it to invest in cleaner safer renewable energy solutions instead of coal.

Communities gather at Climate Defenders Camp to pledge to help stop climate change

Camping for Climate: Greenpeace occupies proposed coal plant site in Iloilo

Greenpeace activists from different countries, including the crew of Greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior, and members of Responsible Ilonggos for Sustainable Energy (RISE) constructed a "climate defenders camp" at the site of a proposed coal plant coal in Iloilo city demanding the cancellation of the said coal plant. They also called on Philippine Senate to fast track the passage of the Renewable Energy (RE) Bill, after its passage by the House of Representatives, to pave way for aggressive renewable energy development in the country.

Honda Makes First Hydrogen Cars

Japanese car manufacturer Honda has begun the first commercial production of a zero-emission, hydrogen fuel-cell powered vehicle. The four-seater, called FCX Clarity, runs on electricity produced by combining hydrogen with oxygen, and emits water vapour.

Honda claims the vehicle offers three times better fuel efficiency than a traditional, petrol-powered car. Honda plans to produce 200 of the cars over the next three years.
One of the biggest obstacles standing in the way of wider adoption of fuel-cell vehicles is the lack of hydrogen fuelling stations. Critics also point out that hydrogen is costly to produce and the most common way to produce hydrogen is still from fossil fuels.

Analysis of the environmental impact of different fuel technologies has shown that the overall carbon dioxide emissions from hydrogen powered cars can be higher than that from petrol or diesel-powered vehicles.

The first five customers are all based in southern California because of the proximity of hydrogen fuelling stations, Honda said. US actress Jamie Lee Curtis will be among the first to take delivery of the vehicle, the firm added. The car will initially be available for lease rather than purchase in California, starting in July, and then in Japan later this year.

It is being built on the world's first dedicated production line for fuel-cell vehicles in Japan. "This is an important day in the history of fuel-cell vehicle technology and a monumental step closer to the day when fuel-cell cars will be part of the mainstream," said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda.

Honda says it expects to lease a few dozen units in the US and Japan in 2008, and about 200 units within three years. It said the cost of the car, on a three-year lease, would be $600 (£300) a month. The FCX Clarity is based on Honda's first-generation hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle, the FCX concept car. Honda delivered around 34 of these cars, mainly in the US, of which 10 remain in use.

According to the VP of Honda Philippines, these cars will not yet be available in the Philippines this year because the Congress still has pending and unsolved issues about using this technology in the country. Another problem is that the price of these cars are too high, that an ordinary Juan Dela Cruz cannot yet afford to buy.

Bagong Simula - Lyrics

ABS-CBN launched the Bayanijuan Foundation during the celebration of the Philippines' 108th Independence day, last June 12, 2008. "Bagong Simula" is the official themesong sang by Kevin Roy of Razorback, Yael Yuzon of Spongecola, Marc Abaya of Kjwan, Kitchie Nadal, Yeng Constantino, together with Placid and Tugma. The song was composed by Robert Labayen and music by Jonathan Manalo. The music video was directed by Robert Labayen and Peewee Azarcon-Gonzales.
Bagong Simula

[Kevin Roy]
Parang isang gabing walang katapusan
Sa bawat mesa, asin lagi ang ulam
umaalog sa alkansya pisong pinagpawisan
Batang nakahubad kumot ang lansangan

[Yael Yuzon]
lupaing kinalbo minsa’y nadidilig
Ng dugo sa away ng kapatid sa kapatid

[Mark Abaya]
Sa kalagayang ito tayo ay nakagapos
Parang awa sana ay dito magtapos
(CHORUS)Todo na to!
Liparin ang langit na bughaw
Pagningningin mga tala at araw
Mamumulang muli ang silangan
sa bagong simula ng ating bayan

[Kitchie NAdal]
wag lang maulit kapalarang kay pait
wag magpabaya wag kang manahimik
wag kang manlalamang, wag kang manggigipit
wag magkanya-kanya, magkaisang bisig

[Yeng Constantino]
Pag malasakit ito’y kabayanihan
gawin mo ano mang makayanan
kalagayan ng baya’y sumasama lamang
kung walang gagawin tayong mamamayan
(Chorus)Todo na to!
Liparin ang langit na bughaw
Pagningningin mga tala at araw
Mamumulang muli ang silangan
sa bagong simula ng ating bayan

[Placid]
Liparin ang langit na bughaw
Pagningningin mga tala at araw
Mamumulang muli ang silangan
sa bagong simula ng ating bayan
[Tugma]
[Narration]
Ipakita natin sa ating mga magulang
mga kapatid kaya natin to
isang subok pa, sabay sabay nawalang kokontra, todo na to
(CHORUS)Todo na to!
Liparin ang langit na bughaw
Pagningningin mga tala at araw
Mamumulang muli ang silangan
sa bagong simula ng ating bayan

KC Concepcion - ‘IMPOSIBLE' Lyrics

KC Concepcion finally released her debut album called “A.K.A. Cassandra.” The carrier single is entitled "Imposible" written by Jude Gitamondoc and published by Mangyan Tunes.

Imposible

Akala mo hindi ko kaya
Ang iwanan at limutin ka
Akala mo, akala ko
Akala nating dalawa
Tayong dalawa.

Eto ka na naman
Walang alam, walang pakialam
Di mo ba nakikita sa ‘king mga mata?

CHORUS

Hindi ako nasasaktan
Hindi kita kinakailangan
Hindi ako nagdaramdam
IMPOSIBLE!
Pag-ibig mo’y limot ko na
Hindi kita naaalala
Hindi na ‘ko aasa pa
IMPOSIBLE!

Ang labo mo namang kausap
Di mo pa ba nakukuha?
Hoy, naririnig mo ba ako
Pakiusap, pakiusap naman

Wag ka nang magtanong
Pakinggan mo na lang itong binubulong
Ng puso ko sa puso mo
At hindi itong sinasabi ko, woahhh…

(Repeat Chorus except last line)

(Refrain)

Imposibleng mangyari ‘yan
Hinding hindi, hindi mo ba alam:
Tanging ikaw lang sa puso ko
Sa isip at gunita ko…

(Repeat Chorus)

Sa bawat araw at gabi
Hinding hindi kita naiisip
Kahit man lang isang saglit
IMPOSIBLE!
Pilitin mang limutin ka
Ngunit hinding hindi magawa
Paano nga ba magawa
Ang IMPOSIBLE?
